Another Record
I was just browsing through the local library the other day looking for a few garden design books. If ever there was an under-utilised government service it would have to be the libraries of the country. As I understand it, in 3rd world countries, you almost have to queue to get into any library, should they even have one. Not here. The place was like a mausoleum, deathly quiet, which meant the ‘Be Quiet’ signs were and absolute waste of space. Anyway, I digress.
I came across a book, still sitting open on a reading desk: Guinness Book of Records and casually flipped through the pages. Some of the things that had been going on around the world got me thinking about man’s need to be the biggest and best at everything. Some records defy explanation.
The biggest birthday cake? Okay, who’s eating that? The biggest pizza? The crust was so thick there was no way you could get your mouth around it. So, were they feeding that to the homeless? It seemed a significant waste. Just recently in the UK, if you look at the infographic picture, they made the biggest ever paper shopping bag. Not sure who was going to take that to the local supermarket but it made the record books. Actually, it was an advertisement that we should be doing away with plastics. I couldn’t agree more.
