Great Ways To Get Kids Involved In DIY Projects
Children learn from their parents. So, if they see their parents doing something, it is likely that they will want to copy. So, if you are a keen DIYer, there are some great ways in which you can get your kids involved safely.
There are benefits to the child – it gets them away from a computer or a television screen, which is always good, and is a fantastic way to boost their spatial awareness, understanding of 3D space, and how things work. This can all help them in later life, and you never know but you might be guiding them in a direction that influences their future career.
To make them interested in whatever project you have on hand, it should be fun and exciting. Think about home improvement, as opposed to home maintenance.
Getting them started:
If they show an interest in DIY, it might be an idea to get them some of their own tools. This way you do not have to worry about them reaching for yours which might be too big and heavy for them.
Many DIY stores will sell tool kits that have been specifically designed for children. If they have their own tools, it will teach responsibility as well as hands on practical skills. It is an excellent way of getting them away from a phone or iPad, and get them doing something practical.
Obviously, safety has to be the paramount priority when letting children carry out DIY projects, so let them practise first. For example, let them practise hammering, by letting them hit bubble wrap, or when your children are slightly older, you can get them practising using a screwdriver by using a scrap of drywall.
Don’t overwhelm them by introducing too many tools at once, as it is important that they know how to use them properly. Start with a couple, and as they get more experienced you can let them loose on a few more.
Easy, kid friendly projects:
Knowing which projects to involve your children in can be difficult. Children can become easily frustrated, so it is important to give them a project that will keep them occupied and calm, so they do not become bored. Below are some great ideas to get children involved but will not be too much…
- Painting
- Children love painting, and it is a great way of getting them involved. Start off with a small project, like getting them to help you paint a wall, and gradually move on.
- Decorations
- This is great for Christmas, Halloween and Easter. Let your children make their own decorations that they can then display around the home. Children love nothing more than seeing results from the work they have been doing.
- Gardening
- Get them outside to help in the garden. Allowing them to plant seeds can be a really fun thing for them to do, as it helps teach them to look after something. They will have to water their newly planted flowers in order for them to grow. It will also make them very happy when they start to see results.
These are just a few very simple projects that you can get your children involved with. DIY is a great way of occupying their time, whilst still being productive. Check out Tiles Porcelain for great tips & advice
